The study of History at this level helps us to understand several 20th Century events which have shaped the world as we know it. For example World War One, the struggle for Black Civil Rights in the USA, and the impact of individuals such as Martin Luther King. We also look at New Zealand’s role in the world and the significant changes taking place at home,in particular the 1981 Springbok Tour.

We will be looking closely at Apartheid in South Africa and the tour itself. Do politics and sports mix well? What impact did the tour have globally? What affect did it have on new Zealanders? What did the tour do for our own race relations?
